Author Stephen Shore to speak at Autism fundraiser

Shore will make a presentation entitled “Life On and Slightly to the Right of the Autism Spectrum: An Inside View Towards Success.”

Dr. Stephen ShoreFebruary 7, 2008, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. the Florida State University Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD) will be hosting a fundraiser to benefit Autism spectrum disorders. Stephen Shore, author of “Autism for Dummies”, “Beyond the Wall: Personal Experiences with Autism and Asperger Syndrome”, and” Ask and Tell: Self-Advocacy and Disclosure for People on the Autism Spectrum”, will be speaking at the event about his personal experiences.

Shore was diagnosed with “atypical development with strong autistic tendencies” and remained nonverbal until the age of four. It was suggested that Shore be institutionalized, but with the help of his parents, teachers, and others, Shore is now completing his doctorate degree in special education at Boston University. He is also a world renound author of three books. Stephen Shore now works with children on the autism spectrum, and presents/consults internationally on issues important to education, relationships, employment, advocacy, and disclosure.

The February 7 event “An evening with Stephen Shore” will start with a silent auction benefiting the CARD center. Shore will then make his presentation “Life On and Slightly to the Right of the Autism Spectrum: An Inside View Towards Success”. The evening will end with a book signing and question/answer session with Shore. The event will provide hors d’oeuvre and desserts to guests. Early registration is recommended by February 1 and the cost of registration is as follows:

  • Individual - $25
  • Couple - $40
  • Family - $50
