Message from the Dean, Wednesday, January 3, 2007
Dear Colleagues,
It is with deep sadness that I report the death of our friend, Wayne Minnick (1915-2006), on Saturday, December 30th. At the time of his death, Wayne was Emeritus Professor of Communication. He retired from our faculty in 1989, following a distinguished, forty-year career at the University. His countless contributions to FSU included two terms as Faculty Senate President (1973-74 & 1975-76). A nationally known authority on speech communication, Wayne served as president of the Speech Association of America (now the NCA) in 1967. He authored two classic texts in the field, "The Art of Persuasion" and "Public Speaking." In recent years, Wayne turned his hand to fiction and published three detective novels. Last fall Wayne received the Vires Torch Award for lifetime achievement from President Wetherell. It honored his "moral, physical and intellectual strength." Wayne was a good friend and a gentle mentor to all who worked with him in the College.
While no services are planned, memorial contributions may be made to the FSU College of Communication, 4100 University Center, Tallahassee, FL 32306, or to a favorite charity.
