After providing a basic overview of copyright law, Dr. Jackson will focus on the relationship between law, technology and free speech.  The discussion will include digital rights management (including the proposed broadcast flag), the future of P2P, and the potential liability of sites like YouTube.

  

Matt Jackson teaches copyright, telecommunications policy, communications law, management, and broadcast/cable programming at Penn State University.  His research focuses on how copyright law shapes communication networks and free speech.  He also conducts research on the First Amendment and legal issues affecting the Internet and other telecommunications industries. Professor Jackson has published articles in numerous outlets including Journal of Communication, Journal of Broadcasting & Electronic Media, Cardozo Arts & Entertainment Law Journal, Hastings Communications and Entertainment Law Journal (COMM/ENT), Federal Communications Law Journal, Communications Law and Policy, and The Georgetown Journal of International Affairs.  He also writes cable regulation chapter for the textbook Communication and the Law.  Matt has served as chair of the Law and Policy division of the International Communication Association and is Department Head of the Department of Telecommunications at Penn State.
